Specialist Nurse

As a Specialist Nurse – Organ Donation (SN-OD) you will be pivotal in delivering one of NHSBT primary focuses of increasing the number of organs that are donated and to increase the number of patients who receive life changing transplants.

The SN-OD will provide information and supportive care to the family of a potential organ donor in collaboration with the critical care team. In addition they support and advise the clinical team caring for a patient and manage the donation process.

As an experienced critical care or emergency department nurse who is innovative and inspirational, you’ll apply your healthcare expertise and passion for the field to help facilitate the donation of even more organs and tissues throughout the UK, from a diverse population and age group. Your experience of working with the acutely bereaved will prove essential. You’ll also utilise your exceptional interpersonal skills to ensure that all donor families and staff are offered support and feedback.

You’ll also need to be flexible enough to participate in our 24-hour on call rota. This extraordinary role is challenging and dynamic with no two days being the same. We are holding a number of Selection Days for the Specialist Nurse opportunities that we have currently throughout the UK. It is essential that applicants arrange to have an informal conversation with the recruitment manager, either face to face or by telephone. This can be done either before application or during the selection process, but must be completed prior to the Selection Day.

This position will be based in London, initially at the West Middlesex and Chelsea and Westminister hospitals. Selection days are anticipated to be held on the 19th and 20th of September, however, this is subject to change and the date will be confirmed with the shortlisted candidates.
